Wat Intharam Worawiharn in Bangkok Travel
Located on the west bank of the Chaophraya River in Bangkok of Thailand, the bank of Thonburi, this temple is quite peaceful and there are few monks residing there. If you are interested in the place, you can travel to it by taking the regular and the air-conditioned buses number 4. These ones run between Clong Tei pier and Phasri Jarern pier. They pass Rama 4 , Yaowaratch, and Chakkrawat roads and cross the bridge to the place.
The brief history of Wat Intharam Worawiharn
Built during the Ayutthaya period, this monastery with many names was restored entirely by King Taksin the Great (1767-1782), who afterwards granted it the status of a royal temple. It was his favourite temple, where he came to stay overnight to meditate and observe religious precepts. In 1782, the temple was used to house the royal crematorium of the late King Taksin the Great. It retained its status as a royal temple throughout the reign of King Rama I (1782-1809), with three high ranking monks governing the monastery. During the reign of King Rama III (1824-1851), Phraya Srisahathep (Thong Pheng) restored it once again and asked the King to grant it the status of a royal temple. The request was granted but to a lower status than before. It was named then Wat Intharam.
